Rabbit and Mole Control

Who is the course for?
This course targeted at persons wishing to undertake pest control predominantly in the land based and related industries. The Sustainable Use Directive, which
includes the use of Aluminium Phosphide, is being redeveloped. The redevelopment means that operators of Aluminium Phosphide will need to be certified to use
or purchase the poison.

Course Objectives
To enable course members to:
Identify rabbits and moles and the typical symptoms of the damage caused
Identify the degree and source of the infestation
Describe the life-style and habbits of the rabbit and mole
State the legislative obligations and responsibilities relevant to the control of rabbits and moles
Plan, implement and monitor and effective control programme for rabbits and moles
Select and carry out the most appropriate methods of rabbit and mole control, in line with current legal guidelines and recognised good practice

Course Content
The importance and biology of rabbits and moles
The legislation associated with rabbit and mole control
The use of fumigants in rabbit and mole control
The use of physical methods in rabbit and mole control
Practical session – active warren to demonstrate gassing or practice gassing compound use – this includes planning the continuing control needed for the site
Summary and discussion
